24. Adel Abdessemed

"Bourek" (name an Algerian pastry)



Adel Abdessemed explores the capabilities for scale and material. While theses sculptures have somewhat negative connotations associated with them (skeleton=death, wrecked planes=accidents), Abdessemed repurposes them into objects unusual to the viewer. "Bourek" is a metaphor for his relationship with home, how wishes the distance was not so significant while paying homage to Algeria.
