To western viewers, these works may seem simplistic and underwhelming because they show the individual as part of a unite in a repetitive pose; however I appreciate the representation of groups in a communal form. The red color is linked to communism, but can also be understood as passion . Shugang presents these sculptures as stills of a group meeting or activity. The viewer has the opportunity to become part of the group and mediate on the stillness of the activity.
