Steinhilber manipulates his materials to create beautifully raw objects. They seem like they could be scientific samples or found artifacts, but he uses everyday materials, which also adds a quality of environmental commentary about how we use our unwanted things. Specifically the first sculpture is made up entirely of hangers- an item that serves the sole purpose of holding up clothing in the closet (a confined space). In this situation he promotes the beauty of the hangers simple form and turns it into the main focus of the space.
